Sony’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the sequel/reboot to David Fincher‘s first installment back in 2011, might have finally found its star.
After an extensive casting process, Sony’s top choice for the gothic rogue hacker is The Crown‘s Claire Foy. After beating out the likes of Felicity Jones for the role, Foy would be the headlining star in the new film, directed by Don’t Breathe helmer Fede Alveraz. The only issue? She might have her eyes set elsewhere.
Apparently, she’s also vying for the lead female role in Damien Chazelle upcoming feature for Universal, The First Man, which stars Ryan Gosling as Neill Armstrong. It’s a tough choice, as Spider’s Web would help her break out as a star, whereas working with Chazelle, hot off of his success with La La Land, is an offer you really shouldn’t pass up. Especially when you consider that he directed Emma Stone to an Academy Award just this past year.
We’ll see where this goes in the next week or two, but she’s Sony’s top pick if she wants the job. Meanwhile, they’re now searching for someone to take on the role of Mikael Blomkvist, who was played by Daniel Craig in the previous film. My personal pick? Viggo Mortensen.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web is set to open October 19th, 2018.
